Candice Jackson Obituary

Candice Elise Jackson

December 1965-September 2018

Candice Elise Jackson was born on December 8, 1965, in Tampa, Florida to Albert and Constance Jackson.  “Candy,” as she was called by those who loved her, was the baby girl and youngest of four children.

She was educated in the public school system in Tampa and graduated from Brandon High School in 1983.   Upon graduation, Candice enrolled at Florida State University where she completed her freshman year, before transferring to the University of Florida (U of F) in Gainesville, Florida.  She received her undergraduate degree from U of F and a masters of public administration degree from the University of Georgia.

During her time in college, Candice was introduced to the field of Public Health and fell in love with it.  She joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1988 as a public health advisor and remained with the federal agency throughout her professional career.  She had the good fortune to work in several divisions at the CDC, where she was based in Atlanta, Tampa, Chicago, Raleigh, and Botswana, Africa.

While she loved work, Candice also loved to travel, learn about different cultures, and the National Football League (NFL).  Candy just plain loved football, period.  She had a special place in her heart for the Florida Gators and her hometown NFL team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Candice transitioned from this life at the age of 52 on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Season’s Hospice in Cumming, Georgia, after a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer.

She was preceded in death by her father Albert C. Jackson, mother Constance Jackson and brother Gregory Alford Sr.

She leaves to mourn her death: sisters Brenda King (Maryland) and Rosebud “Bunnye” Turner (Charlotte), nieces Lauren Turner, Tammy King (UK) and Kendra Alford, and nephews Clinton Turner, George King IV (UK) and Gregory Alford Jr., and a host of cousins and very dear friends, including her life-long friends Leigh Crosson (Tampa), Patricia Mitchell (Atlanta) and Amy Peeples (Atlanta).
