Deanna
George
d. Feb 17, 2026
Deanna W. George, age 87, of Jackson, GA, went to join her loved ones in Heaven on February 17, 2026. She was born on July 18, 1938, in Poughkeepsie, New York, the daughter of the late Robert David Wilson and Dorothy Mae Raymond Wilson White. She was married to the late Josiah "Joe" Napoleon George for 36 years.
"Nanny," as she was affectionately known, was always a beacon of love with a smile on her face. In her professional life, she worked as the owner of a bed and bath shop in Marietta, GA, and as a Chief Scorer for the United States Waterski and Wake Sports Foundation (USA WWF). Her last occupation tied into one of the things her family loved most: waterskiing. The George family could often be found out in the sun on the water and she was the BEST boat driver on those long lake days. Deanna was also an excellent golfer and spent many Saturday mornings on the course. She loved to travel and had visited over twenty-five countries. Most often though, you could find her at her home, "holding up" the screen porch while looking over the waters of Lake Jackson, with a cup of coffee or margarita in hand.
Deanna was a member of the Turtle Cove Golf Club, the Callaway Gardens Ski Club, and the USA WWF. She and Joe were founding members of the Ackworth Ski Club in 1966 (now the Atlanta Ski Club) and the Georgia Waterski Federation in 1976.
Deanna was predeceased by her husband, Josiah Napoleon George; her daughter, Stacey Lynn George; her son, Robert Tarpley (Tarp) George; her grandson, Carter Josiah George; her brother, Gary White; her sister, Ruth Theiling; and her brother, Bobby Wilson.
She is survived by her loving granddaughter, Casey Deanna Daniel (Kenny), and Casey's mother, Tracy George; her great-granddaughter, Emerson Daniel; nephew, Glen Theiling (Susan), and niece, Tonya Whitley (Tom); and many great-nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Deanna's life will be held on March 7, 2026 at 11:30AM at Stark Methodist Church, with Rev. Chris Mullis officiating.
Nanny loved bright colors and playful prints, especially on the golf course. In lieu of traditional black attire, the family warmly invites everyone to wear something colorful or fun to celebrate her vibrant spirit.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dauset Trails, 360 Mount Vernon Church Rd. Jackson, Georgia 30233.
