In Loving Memory of Marion "Jean" Eugenia Lane Finn

August 19, 1936 – November 21, 2024

Marion (Jean) Eugenia Lane Finn, affectionately known as "Nanny," a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family, who were the center of her world.

Jean was the cherished daughter of Ruby and Curtis Tolar (both deceased), and she grew up in Dothan, Alabama, alongside her sister, Jerry Whiddon.

She met and married the love of her life, Millard Leroy Finn Sr. "Pawpaw," (deceased) after only 19 days, proving to everyone that true love knows no bounds. They celebrated 63 wonderful years together. Jean and Millard had three children: Millard (Misi) Leroy Finn Jr. of Maxis, Georgia, Michaele (David) Haney, and Mindy (Russell) Buhler, both of Oxford, Georgia, and 31 grandchildren. Jean taught her family the importance of loving family, honoring their country, cooking, and cheering for Alabama football. She took immense pride in celebrating the accomplishments of her children, their spouses, and her cherished grandchildren.

Jean was a true "momma bear," fiercely protective and endlessly supportive of her family. Her love was unconditional, and she always saw the best in those she loved. She celebrated their choices, successes in life, careers, and life partners.

One of her most endearing qualities was her genuine interest in others. She never failed to ask, "What else is going on?" during conversations, making everyone feel heard and valued. Her curiosity and care for others' lives were a testament to her loving nature.

As the matriarch of our family, Nanny took the lead during family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving. Her cornbread dressing was the highlight of the meal, a cherished tradition that brought everyone together. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the delicious aroma of her cooking.

Nanny had a passion for college football and was a die-hard fan of the University of Alabama. She would go toe to toe with anyone who doubted the ability of her beloved team to triumph over any opponent. Her enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and she loved sharing this passion with her family and friends.

Her nurturing spirit was exemplified in her grandchildren, who loved helping her navigate modern technology, bringing her gifts, and treating her to regular facials and manicures. In return, she shared her love of ice cream, including her favorite toppings like chocolate sauce and peanut butter.

Nanny was known for her giving nature. She would go without to help anyone in need, always putting others before herself. Her generosity and selflessness touched many lives, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met. She saved everything just in case someone needed it, a testament to her thoughtful and caring nature.

One of the most cherished memories of Nanny was her love for preserving memories. She kept "every picture" with pride and joy and would eagerly show them to anyone visiting. Her home was a gallery of family history, filled with photographs that captured the love and joy she shared with her family and friends.

Nanny will be remembered for her unwavering love, her kind heart, and her ability to make everyone feel valued and supported. Her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is survived by her three children, their spouses, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and most recently a great-great-grandchild, and many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

We are comforted knowing she and Daddy are dancing again in heaven and are our family's guardian angels forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in her memory.

Everyone who remembers her is asked to celebrate her life by tipping their hat and saying, "Roll Tide!"
