Colleen Nixon passed away after a lifelong journey marked by extraordinary courage. A multiple cancer survivor, Colleen faced adversity with uncommon bravery and an unshakable will, earning the title she lived by: warrior.
Colleen was deeply creative and found joy in making things with her hands and heart. She loved knitting, crochet, and painting, and she shared her creativity generously through knitting groups and friendships formed stitch by stitch. Her art was not only a personal refuge, but a way she connected with others.
Service to children facing illness was central to Colleen's life. She volunteered at Camp Rap-A-Hope and at the Tulane children's cancer wing, offering compassion, understanding, and hope to families who needed it most. Her lived experience gave her a rare empathy, and she showed up for others with quiet strength and sincerity.
Colleen will be remembered for her resilience, her kindness, and her creative spirit. She was an extremely intelligent person, who did not just acquire knowledge; she applied it to make the world better. The world is less bright without her incisive mind. She met life head-on, with bravery and grace, and left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the beauty she created, and the courage she modeled every day.
