James Smith Obituary

James Edward Smith passed away on January 25, 2021 in his home in Lithonia, Georgia with his loving wife by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born December 7, 1943 in Macon, Georgia to the late Ulyses and Lillian Smith, James was the eldest of seven siblings. At a young age, James helped to build Mount Zion Church in Jackson, Georgia where he was a proud member and also served as a Deacon. After graduating from Henderson High School, James went on to work as a supervisor in the transportation industry for many decades. It was during his time working at Transus Trucking Company, where he met his wife, Zella Cobbs, and they were married in 1987. This union bore one daughter. In his retirement years, he loved spending his time gardening, cooking, listening to music and playing with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son, Kenneth Smith; brother, Sam Smith and sister, Betty Douglas.

James leaves to cherish his loving memory, his dutiful wife of thirty-three years Zella Smith; son, Marvin Smith; daughter, Kristie (Ervin) Ross; one brother, Harold (Gail) Smith and three sisters, Carolyn Douglas, Emily Berry and Ruth Allen; grandchildren, Kenneth Smith, Jr., Lakendrick Smith, Marvin Smith, Jr., Cierra Smith, Kierra Smith, India Smith, Rylan Avery, Jordan Ross and Parker Ross. He also leaves a host of great-grandchildren, stepdaughter, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
