Ronald Daniel Hegwood, 83, of Conyers, GA, passed away on May 26th in the arms of his loving wife after a long battle with cancer. Born in Moultrie, GA on October 30, 1937, he was one of six children to the late James and Minnie Hegwood.
After high school Ronald joined the U.S. Air Force where he served as an Air Traffic Controller stationed across the globe, including Greenland. Ronald was then stationed in Minnesota where he met Joan Haverland whom he married in February of 1959. Following his service to his country, Ronald was a skilled electrician with IBEW local 613 until he retired in January of 2000.
In addition to his parents, his brothers, Benjamin Hegwood and James Hegwood, and his sisters, Juanita Sharman, Christina Harrison, and Virginia Johnston preceded him in death.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 62 years Joan Hegwood of Conyers, GA; his five children, Debbie Hegwood of Covington, GA, Glen Hegwood (Charlotte) of Marietta, GA, Jimmy Hegwood (Twana Martin) of St. Petersburg, FL, Rhonda Kraff (Gregory) of Garden City, NY and Jennifer Coffey (Bill) of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Austin Hegwood, Allyson Kraff, and Caroline Hegwood; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on June 12 at Crossroads United Methodist Church which is located at 2460 Highway 138 NE in Conyers. A reception will follow.
